The set was woefully unrehearsed and has been described as one of the worst gigs ever as the band struggled with the technical aspects of the live show. Other well known bands with hits in the early spring of 1976 were The Eagles with Take It To The Limit, 10CC with I’m Mandy Fly Me and Silly Love Songs by Wings. He had his first solo hit in 1973 - I'm Going to Love You Just a Little Bit More, Baby - and this set the tone for more than 30 years of hits, including Never Never Gonna Give You Up, Babe and Sho' You Right. White recorded 20 studio albums during the course of his career, but multiple versions and compilations were released worldwide that were certified gold, 41 of which also attained platinum status. White had 20 gold and 10 platinum singles, with worldwide record sales in excess of 100million records, and is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He had been battling kidney failure brought on by high blood pressure and had a stroke in May. is Baby Driver by folk legends Simon & Garfunkel. The key couple of lines are - 'They call me Baby Driver, and once upon a pair of wheels, I hit the road and I'm gone." So Ansel Elgort plays Baby Driver, a brilliant getaway driver who works for a ruthless crime boss called Doc ( Kevin Spacey). He's constantly listening to music on headphones to drown out his tinnitus, a condition brought on by a childhood accident. It's a great character - a moody, muso geek - played with adorable innocence by the baby-faced Elgort. The heist hits Continuing with Barry White's signature style, 'I’m Gonna Love You Just a Bit More, Baby' is an undisputed masterpiece in soul music history. This song blends together soul, funk, disco, and orchestration to create a harmonious sound that demands attention from whoever hears it. It hit number one on the R&B charts when released in 1973 and was taken from White's debut studio album. With his rich vocal range caressing every lyric of this remarkable composition and the rhythmical interplay between various musical elements perfectly placed throughout the piece – from strings to brass; it remains one of his most famous creations.

In September 2002, White was hospitalized with kidney failure attributed to chronic high blood pressure; he was also believed to have been diabetic. While undergoing dialysis and awaiting a kidney transplant in May 2003, White suffered a severe stroke, which forced him to retire from public life. He also suffered multiple seizures in his last few weeks. [34] It was too tempting a culture clash to pass up - Barry White, the American walrus of love, was taking part in a question and answer session at the Oxford Union, the breeding-ground for the British establishment. But in the Nineties, a wave of nostalgia propelled various Barry White compilations into the charts. He scored hits with the album The Icon Is Love (1994), as well as with the safe sex message of the single "Practice What You Preach" and in his collaborations with Tina Turner ("In Your Wildest Dreams"), Quincy Jones (on "The Secret Garden"), the rapper Big Daddy Kane ("All of Me") and Lisa Stansfield (on a reworking of "All Around The World"). Simply Red covered "It's Only Love", one of White's compositions. Television appearances on Ally McBeal and The Simpsons increased his iconic status and, in 1999, he released his 41st album, Staying Power.

What does he make of it all?

Barry White's declining health forced him to rely increasingly on his 40-piece Love Unlimited Orchestra, so that he could perform such classic songs as Let The Music Play in concert. In several interviews after the fact, Lennon explained that “I Am The Walrus” was written in response to learning that fans were analyzing the lyrics of The Beatles’ songs. More specifically, Lennon had read a letter from a student from his alma mater, Quarry Bank High School for Boys, that said the literature classes were studying the meaning of The Beatles lyrics. (That study sounds a little familiar…) Interestingly, 'Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up' was written during a low point in Barry's life when he felt overwhelmed by financial troubles and employee disputes. But much like the song itself, the artist found strength and resilience within himself that eventually led him out of those dark times. In addition to the stereo remixes prepared for the Love show and the 2012 Apple reissue referenced above, the DVDs that were released for those same projects contain a 5.1 surround sound mix of the song, making three distinct 5.1 remixes of the same song. Courthouse News Service.According to author Ian MacDonald, the "model" for "I Am the Walrus" was most likely Procol Harum's " A Whiter Shade of Pale", which was a hit single during the summer of 1967 and Lennon's favourite song of the period. [3] The lyric came from three song ideas that Lennon had been working on, the first of which was inspired by hearing a police siren at his home in Weybridge; Lennon wrote the lines "Mis-ter cit-y police-man" to the rhythm and melody of the siren. The second idea was a short rhyme about Lennon sitting amidst his garden, while the third was a nonsense phrase about sitting on a corn flake. Unable to finish the three different songs, he combined them into one. The lyric also included the phrase "Lucy in the sky", a reference to the Beatles' earlier song " Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". Barry White was a big man in more ways than one, and that night at the Oxford Union is a reminder of the unique talent that has been lost with his passing.
