About this deal

The Fitbit Sense 2 is the company's top-shelf smartwatch that comes with more advanced health and wellness features that the Versa line. During our testing, we found that the Fitbit Sense 2 helped us gain a better overall view of our overall health. From an accuracy point of view, we think it's a bit of a mix-bag across both platforms. Fitbit's newest devices like the Charge 4, Versa 3, or Sense offer more reliable data based on our experience. But these devices have their moments of throwing up questionable data too. You're also getting those SpO2 readings carried out by the same sensor that delivers the heart rate data. We tested it against a dedicated pulse oximeter and found that readings were identical. Like most wearables, then, the Amazfit Band 5 hasn’t quite figured out how to be a helpful gym buddy, but the options on offer are at least on a par with others at this price point. Running With The Amazfit Band 5

Amazfit and Fitbit both have strong smartwatch lineups and it's a tough call between the Fitbit Versa 4 and Amazfit GTS 4 (and rounded-faced GTR 4). At , it's a little pricier than the Mi Band 5 ( ) and a lot closer in price to the Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 ( ) and the Huawei Band 4 Pro . Blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring is a hot health tool these days. Below-normal levels of blood oxygen concentrations (95 percent or lower) could be signs of underlying health issues. An SpO2 reading is also less subjective than a pulse or blood pressure reading. The Amazfit Band 5 claims to last up to 15 days on one charge, which is more than double the Fitbit Charge 4’s battery life rating. I only got 8 days out of my unit, but I worked out several times, which could've chip at the band’s rated stamina.

Like older versions of the watch, you still get the body composition analysis feature, plus SPo2, ECG, and heart rate monitoring. But there is a new Personalized Heart Rate Zone feature for workouts, and we’ll see Samsung roll out the Irregular Heart Rhythm notification feature that detects signs of aFib. Always-on Display: When the screen is illuminated, it displays system content. When the screen is in standby mode, it displays the time. This function requires users to manually set "Always-on Display". The user can switch on or off this feature through the device settings or in the Zepp App. If you want to ensure the time on your Amazfit Band 5 is always accurate, it is recommended to synchronize it with your smartphone. The band uses the time information from your smartphone to update its own time.

On the whole, it worked well. It was able to able to recognize queries correctly on the first attempt. It handled queries about the weather, upcoming sports fixtures and recipes, where it will prompt you as to whether you want to follow the recipe on the band. It's perhaps not the biggest screen to read a recipe on, but it works. There's a decent array of smartwatch features on board the Band 5. For starters, it's compatible with Android phones and iPhones. We had it paired with an Android phone and didn't experience any issues with pairing or syncing. The battery life may vary according to the settings, operation conditions and other factors. So the actual result may differ from the laboratory data. During testing it has been comfortable to wear in the day, during exercise and at night. It's never fallen off and the band hasn't cause any skin irritations or issues. If that’s a sensor and metric that matters to you and you prefer a more advanced heart rate monitor, the Amazfit Band 5 is the one that can delivers those.

The Amazfit Band 5 is a $50 activity tracker packed with many sought-after features found in pricier fitness bands.

Depending on your band’s interface, you may need to tap on the current time display or use the buttons or touchscreen to increase or decrease the hours and minutes. Both platforms offer heart rate-based health insights based on optical, light-based sensors. The Fitbit Sense 2 and Fitbit Charge 5 also offer the kind of medical grade-style ECG sensor found in the newest Apple Watches too. Don’t be put off by the fact that Amazfit has been on the scene for less time than Fitbit. It has already shown it can make really attractive, well-built wearables that offer big features for not a lot of money. With the exception of a subtle pink finish, there's nothing noteworthy looks-wise with the Apple Watch Series 9. Instead, its S9 processor introduces the watch's most significant performance boost in years, powering a brighter display and faster Siri interactions. An improved ultra-wideband chip enables new ecosystem functions, too. What’s more, the new double tap gesturemakes it possible to carry out a slew of Apple Watch Series 9 controls one-handed. The Amazfit pair offers an overhauled heart rate sensor array on board, multiband GPS, 150+ workout modes, and intelligent detection of workouts, including gym repetitions.

For the Mi Band 6, you're getting something with a similar sized polycarbonate case and plastic strap combo with the same style pin clasp that we can't say we absolutely love. That houses a larger 1.56-inch, 152 x 486 resolution AMOLED display. You're getting the same water resistant rating as the Amazfit Band 5 here too. Both Amazfit GTS/GTR 4 watches and Fitbit Versa 2 are very middle-of-the-road smartwatches in terms of extras – with no apps, modest third-party integrations, and poor watch face selections.

Why is Amazfit Band 5 better than Xiaomi Mi Band 5?

When we did manage to get some data, it was kind of what expected. Average heart rate data and maximum heart rate data was largely off in comparison to a chest strap monitor. Controlling it is a little fiddly. There are no physical buttons; instead you bring the wearable to life by tapping the capacitive button below the screen, and then navigate with swipes and taps. It’s OK, but it gets a bit fiddly when you’re trying to access something in a hurry – say, if somebody has just shouted “go” on the start line of a race. Should You Buy Something Else? We’ve had mixed experiences with mirrored notifications. In general, you can decide which phone notifications you want pushed to your wrist, plus whether you want to preview their contents. You can’t reply to messages, but as one of the best smartwatches for Android and iOS, the GTS/GTR series lets you answer calls, no matter your connected smartphone. Still, the Apple Watch is better catered for iPhone users, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and all the best Samsung watches are better for Samsung phone users.

Our issue has always been around the software foundations that allow that hardware to shine, and while it’s still a little clunky and buggy in places, things on that front have improved massively. You’re getting well-presented health and fitness data along with useful insights into that data.Battery Saver Mode: Engage the Battery Saver Mode on the device, which turns off the Bluetooth connection, heart rate and other functions, and only records steps and basic sleep information.
